Paysages de migration is a dance performance born out of encounters, shared stories, and shared movements, choreographed by Claudia Chan Tak and featuring participants from the Centre social d’aide aux immigrants (CSAI).
The result of a two-year collaborative process, the project took shape through numerous opportunities for sharing and dialogue with participants at the Centre social d’aide aux immigrants (CSAI). Inspired by the arpillera, calligraphy, painting, and writing workshops offered at the Centre, choreographer Claudia Chan Tak weaves a delicate connection between movement, memory, and community creation.
On stage, the dancers bring to life stories of immigration, memories of landscapes, journeys, faces, departures, and farewells. Through them, stories of family, love, renewal, and wonder emerge: discovering the landscapes of this place while remaining connected to the sky and the land from which we come, to those of our ancestors.
Each choreographic fragment becomes a way to proudly fly the flag of one’s identity, to weave together the threads of our history, to trace the calligraphy of our bodies and voices, and to paint our colors and textures together on a shared choreographic canvas. By dancing to the words, by bringing stories of migration and belonging to life through movement, the participants dance together the beauty of their migration landscapes.
